Camp Therapyology

From my early years as a camp counselor to leading groups for teens in clinical practice, my mission is to empower the next generation to lead a more valued life. Growing up in today’s world isn’t easy! As a licensed psychotherapist I help children, teens, and families develop healthy skills to manage their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. This form of evidence-based practice, known as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Stz–d17ID4, helps to teach the next generation how to cope better with life’s stressors – ultimately reducing anxiety! With over 14 years of clinical experience in the field of mental health my practice is rooted in creating a strong therapeutic relationship built on trust and compassion. I believe it is my calling to support kids and their families.

I received a Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University and a Master of Arts (AM) degree from the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration. After ten years of practice I completed a Clinical Fellowship in Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy from University of Chicago. I also serve as part-time faculty at Wayne State University School of Social Work.

Hi! I’m Lexie. Intern at Therapyology. I am currently working towards my Masters in Social Work degree at the University of Michigan. Go Blue! While I may be a social worker “in training” my passion for helping children and teens began many years ago during summers spent at sleepaway camp. Being a counselor and supervisor at sleepaway camp was where I developed my spark for supporting campers through many different social and emotional issues. Then, while attending college at Michigan State University, I pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Organizational Leadership and Jewish Studies. Being involved in several different organizations provided me with the experience and leadership opportunities to pursue a career in social work helping to change the lives of the next generation… at Therapyology! I am passionate about helping children and teens find their way and reaching their full potential.

The idea of talking with a therapist can bring up lots of mixed feelings and uncertainty. However, therapy can be an empowering, safe place to talk through whatever you might be facing. I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental, supportive space for children and adolescents struggling with their mental health and their families. It is very important for me to meet my clients where they are and to recognize their unique experiences and individual needs. Together, we can work through the tough stuff so you can start feeling better.

I am a Licensed Clinical Therapist that specializes in working with adolescents who are experiencing grief and loss, depression, anxiety, LGBTQIA+ issues, suicidal ideation, and self-harm. I work closely with parents and family members who have a child or teen in their life who is struggling with their mental health to help provide the best outcomes possible for the child.

I hold a Master’s degree in Social Work from Wayne State University and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Georgia State University. The past several years I have spent working in a school-based setting where I provide individual counseling to students, facilitate support groups for grief and loss, and provide parent consultation and crisis intervention.
